The five Greek Cypriots detained in the north on Wednesday had their charges of 'unlawful entry onto foreign property' and 'causing public concern' dropped at the Trikomo 'district court'.
According to the 'prosecution', the decision was taken not to proceed with legal action on these specific accusations, while the 'court' ruled to acquit all five individuals on those grounds.
However, proceedings continued against two of the five, who still face a charge relating to the 'violation of personal data'. The 'prosecution' announced its intention to amend the charge sheet, requesting a postponement of the hearing. The 'court' subsequently adjourned the case, setting a new date for 21 October.
Despite the partial acquittal, the five Greek Cypriots remain barred by 'authorities' from leaving the northern part of the island. A separate case is still pending before a 'military court' in occupied Nicosia, which is scheduled to resume on 8 October.
The ongoing detentions have sparked widespread concern and condemnation from the Republic of Cyprus and human rights observers.
