The Republic of Cyprus has requested international assistance in connection with the controversial video that surfaced on Thursday, containing references to suspicious financing and investment practices.

According to information obtained by Cyprus News Agency (CNA), Nicosia approached specialised units from the United StatesIsraelUnited Kingdom and France on Wednesday and Thursday, as investigations already under way continue at full pace.

The Cyprus Police is working in close cooperation with the Law Office of the Republic, with all available data currently under evaluation.

It is recalled that former Energy Minister Giorgos Lakkotrypis, who appears in the video, presented himself to police on Friday and gave an official statement, submitting information in his possession. This material is now being assessed by investigators.

At the same time, CNA was informed yesterday by the Police Press Office that scientific reports are also expected from the competent police departments, including the Cybercrime Subdirectorate and the Forensic Services Department.

Regarding the possibility of taking statements from other individuals appearing in the video, the Police spokesperson said there is currently no update on this matter.

Police also stressed to CNA that the scope of the investigation is not vague and that it covers the full range of issues raised by the video.

As for the account that uploaded the video on the X platform, investigations are continuing both into its origin and into anything connected to the material.

The video, which was posted on X, allegedly records conversations between former Energy Minister Giorgos Lakkotrypis, the Director of the President’s Office Charalambos Charalambous, and Giorgos Chrysochos, Director of the Cyfield Group, with an individual presented as an investor from the Netherlands.
