İzzet İzcan has criticised Recep Tayyip Erdoğan over his recent remarks on the Cyprus issue, delivered at the Antalya Diplomacy Forum.

İzcan said references to a settlement based on “two separate peoples and two separate states” are unacceptable, arguing that such positions show Turkey’s ruling Justice and Development Party is not seeking a genuine solution to the Cyprus problem.

He added that Turkish Cypriots support a federal settlement grounded in United Nations resolutions, stressing that Ankara’s policy runs counter to the will of the Turkish Cypriot community.

İzcan warned that the current approach entrenches political deadlock and risks undermining the identity and existence of Turkish Cypriots. He also reiterated that Cyprus belongs to its people and called on the United Nations Secretary-General to take the initiative to restart substantive negotiations without delay.
