The United Nations Secretary General’s Personal Envoy on the Cyprus issue, María Ángela Holguín Cuéllar, has postponed her scheduled visit to Cyprus for personal reasons, according to the Cyprus News Agency (CNA). An official announcement from the United Nations is expected.
As UN spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric had announced last Friday, Ms Holguín was due to hold separate meetings on 2 September with the leaders of the two communities, Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides and Turkish Cypriot leader Ersin Tatar.
She was also expected to meet with the negotiators of both leaders, members of the Technical Committee on Youth, and representatives of the Committee on Missing Persons, among other interlocutors.
United Nations Confirms Postponement
The UN spokesperson in Cyprus, Alim Siddique, confirmed that Ms Holguín’s arrival for contacts on the island has been delayed.
In a written statement, Mr Siddique explained: “Due to an unforeseen matter, the Personal Envoy of the UN Secretary General, Ms María Ángela Holguín, will reschedule her visit to Cyprus.”
