The New Year opened with a rare multilingual message from the Turkish Cypriot leadership, as Tufan Erhurman addressed the public in three languages, striking a personal and inclusive tone.

In a New Year’s post shared on Facebook, Tufan Erhurman extended his wishes in Turkish, Greek and English, writing: “We extend our best wishes to everyone for a new year filled with health, happiness, prosperity, and peace.”

The message was accompanied by a family photograph showing Erhurman with his wife, Nilden Bektas Erhurman, their son Toprak and their cat. The post also tagged his wife, underscoring the personal nature of the greeting.

Erhurman ends the year having recently assumed office as Turkish Cypriot leader, following a landslide election victory in October over his predecessor, Ersin Tatar. His New Year message, delivered in three languages, was widely noted for its emphasis on peace and coexistence at the start of his term.
