DISY remains the leading party in Cyprus with 18.5%, followed by AKEL on 18%, according to a survey conducted by Prime Consulting Ltd for Sigma TV. Regarding voter intention adjusted for valid votes, ELAM ranks third on 12%, followed by ALMA on 10%. Government partner DIKO is fifth on 7%, while the remaining parties fall below the parliamentary threshold of 3.6%: the Green Party – Citizens’ Cooperation and Volt both register 2%, while EDEK and DIPA are on 1% each. The largest “party” comprises the undecided voters, at 19.5%.
Asked if there was a party on the political spectrum that reflected their political stance to a significant degree, the majority of respondents (50%) said no, while 48% said there was.
Political leaders’ popularity
The poll also measures political leaders’ popularity. Odysseas Michaelides, head of the ALMA movement, ranks first with 42%. Annita Demetriou (DISY) is second on 34%, and Stefanos Stefanou (AKEL secretary-general) is third on 30%.
In fourth place, on 24%, are Stavros Papadouris (Greens) and Christos Christou (ELAM). They are followed by Nikolas Papadopoulos (DIKO) on 16%, Nikos Anastasíou (EDEK) on 15%, Marios Garoyian (DIPA) on 11%, and the Volt co-chairs Andromachi Sofokleous on 9% and Panos Parras on 5%.
How fairs the President?
Public approval of President Nikos Christodoulides remains low with 59% of respondents registering a negative opinion of the country’s top official, versus 31% holding a positive opinion. In addition, 76% say they are not very/not at all satisfied with the president’s performance, while 24% express satisfaction.
The survey also records a rise in the share of respondents who believe the country is heading in the wrong direction: from 69% in February 2025 to 73% in September. Those saying the country is heading in the right direction edged down to 17% from 19% in February.
Party consolidation
ELAM shows the highest voter consolidation at 67%, followed by AKEL (65%), DIKO (55%), DISY (47%), DIPA (38%), the Greens (19%), and EDEK (13%).
The poll also maps the party origins of ALMA voters: 19% come from DISY, 17% from the Greens, 15% from AKEL, 11% from EDEK, 8% from DIKO, and 6% from ELAM.
Voting criteria
Asked for the top criterion guiding their choice of party, the majority of respondents ranked the Cyprus issue as the most important issue (26%), followed by corruption (19%), economic positions (16%), positions on domestic issues (12%), the party’s parliamentary candidates (10%), and ideology (8%).
Methodology
The poll was conducted via telephone survey with 1,144 eligible voters between September 22–30, with a ±3% margin of error and a 95% confidence interval.
