Paphos Mayor Faidonas Faidonos has commented on the video circulating on social media, claiming that statements heard in the footage confirm the circulation of large sums of money in cash and calling for full transparency regarding contributions linked to the Presidential Palace.

Speaking following the release of the video, Faidonas Faidonos said that the Director of the Office of the President of the Republic and former energy minister Giorgos Lakkotrypis confirmed what he had previously stated: that significant amounts of money circulate in cash and follow specific routes.

“Today, with the video that was made public, we heard the Director of the Office of the President of the Republic and Mr Lakkotrypis confirm exactly this: that a lot of money circulates in cash and that this money follows specific routes,” Faidonos said, recalling an earlier statement in which he had referred to a former minister who purchased a safe.

He added that those involved should “stop pretending that they do not know what is really happening with the so-called Social Support Fund that operates at the Presidential Palace under the President’s spouse”.

Faidonos further said that “we must not forget that the President himself fought to maintain the regime of anonymity for donations”, calling on the House of Representatives to legislate for the disclosure of the names of those who contribute to the Social Support Fund.

Political parties continue to seek explanations from the government over the video concerning alleged funding linked to President Nikos Christodoulides.

Full statement by the Mayor of Paphos

“On September 10, 2025, I referred to a former minister who had purchased a safe.

I said clearly: money does not circulate only through banks. It also circulates in cash.

Today, with the video that was made public, we heard the Director of the Office of the President of the Republic and Mr Lakkotrypis confirm exactly this: that large sums of money circulate in cash and that this money follows specific routes.

Let them stop the hypocrisy surrounding underground funding and black political money.

Let them stop pretending that they do not know what is really happening with the so-called ‘Social Support Fund’ operating at the Presidential Palace under the President’s spouse.

We do not forget that the President himself fought to keep the anonymity regime for donations.

Now we know why.

This regime cannot continue.

A new beginning must be made immediately:

The names of all those who made contributions to the Presidential Fund must be made public. Without exceptions.

And if the Presidential Palace does not consent, the House of Representatives must impose this by law.

Our country is being exposed once again.

Our society must finally learn to distinguish the truth.”
