The investigation into the controversial video published in early January, containing allegations of corruption and cash for political favours remains ongoing, Police Spokesperson Vyron Vyronos said on Tuesday.

Speaking to CNA, Vyronos said no official findings have emerged so far. The case is being handled under the supervision of an independent criminal investigator appointed by the Attorney‑General, who is expected to announce the results once the investigation is completed.

He said police actions are being carried out in cooperation with the investigator, with police officers also participating in the investigative process.

The criminal investigator was appointed on 13 January 2026, with instructions to complete the investigation within three months. That deadline is now approaching, but no results have been made public yet.

Vyronos said despite the three‑month timeline, he does not know when the investigation will actually conclude.

He also said he had no information on whether the video has been edited or is authentic, nor whether external digital forensics experts have been involved in the examination.

“The primary responsibility for the investigation lies with the criminal investigator, while the police assist in the process and cannot provide details on the stage of the examinations or the timeline of the investigation,” he said.

The disputed video was published on the platform “X” by an account named “Emily Thompson,” presented as an independent researcher and analyst.

The material appears to show conversations allegedly involving political figures, with references to funding and pre‑election activities.

The government and individuals shown in the video were quick to dispute its authenticity, calling it a maliciously edited product while describing the account behind it as suspicious or unreliable.

The President’s chief of staff, Charalambos Charalambous, stepped down following the reverbations caused by the video.
