A 31-year-old man currently in custody in connection with the murder of Limassol businessman Stavros Demosthenous, was rearrested on Tuesday, after testimony further implicated him in the case.
Though he is currently serving an eight-day murder after his arrest on Saturday, he was initially believed to have been an accomplice.
Nonetheless, he now faces charges of remeditated murder, conspiracy to commit murder, conspiracy to commit a felony, arson of a vehicle, possession, transport and use of a firearm and explosives, as well as theft of a motor vehicle.
He will be taken to Limassol district court on Wednesday for a new remand order.
From accomplice to key suspect
The 31-year-old was first arrested on Saturday and has been in custody since, as he is believed to have played a key role in the escape to the north of the 28-year-old motorcyclist who drove the getaway bike used by the shooters.
The 31-year-old allegedly used his own vehicle to transport the 28-year-old to the north via the Agios Dometios checkpoint. From there, they reportedly continued their journey to Turkey by ferry from the port of Kyrenia. They then travelled overland from Turkey to Thessaloniki, using the same vehicle.
The car was later located in Thessaloniki, where the 28-year-old and his cousin, also 28, were arrested on 30 October 2025.
More remand orders
Earlier on Tuesday, two suspects, a 45-year-old footballer and 51-year-old man were in court for a remand order. The court will announce its decision on Wednesday.
Two suspects currently in remand, aged 30 and 58 in connection to the purchase of the motorcycle used in the assisnation, will also appear before court on Wednesday, as police is expected to request another remand order for their detention.
