Damage to 26 homes has been confirmed by local authorities following a twister that pushed through the Avrogou community in the Famagusta district early yesterday afternoon during heavy storms that affected most of the island.

As deputy Famagusta District Officer Flora Georgiou told CNA, 'twenty owners contacted the district offices following the phenomenon and reported damage to their homes, both in Avgorou and the neighbouring community of Frenaros'.

Six additional owners informed competent authorities this morning. Crews visited all affected homes in the area, recorded the damage and took photos.

'Owners will proceed with all necessary repairs and keep the receipts for future compensation', she noted.

As Ms.Georgiou added, when the Cabinet decides on compensation, then the owners will submit the necessary receipts to claim what they spent to fix their homes.

The twister ripped off roofs, photovoltaics and boilers, with a number of trees falling on roads and home gardens.
