Police Arrest in 11 in Nationwide Crime Crackdown

Drunk drivers, weapon possession and illegal stay in the Republic were among the violations police identified

Police arrested 11 people overnight on Friday and issued 120 traffic bookings as part of enhanced operations aimed at preventing serious crime, protecting the public and maintaining public order.

In a statement, police said the preventive operations focused on tackling serious forms of criminality, resulting in 11 arrests nationwide.

In Limassol, six arrests were made for offences including possession of offensive weapons (a knife and knuckle-duster), burglary, possession of a counterfeit banknote, illegal stay and drug possession. Six cars and two motorcycles were also impounded in connection with traffic offences.

In Paphos, three people were arrested for illegal entry into the Republic, carrying a knife, drunkenness and causing a public disturbance. One vehicle was impounded as part of traffic investigations.

A further two arrests were made in Nicosia and Famagusta districts for possession of burglary tools, unlawful possession of property and drug offences. At the same time, extensive inspections were carried out at a number of premises overnight to prevent and suppress illegal activity.

On the road network, police conducted more than 900 checks, resulting in 120 traffic bookings. Of these, 55 related to driving under the influence of alcohol, while seven drivers tested positive in preliminary drug screenings.
