Increased Ryanair flights from German airports and Lufthansa flights from Munich to Paphos have been announced for the summer of 2026.
The Paphos Regional Board of Tourism (ETAP) has welcomed with particular satisfaction the strengthening of Paphos’ air connectivity with Germany for the summer 2026 season through Ryanair and Lufthansa.
Nine flights per week
According to an ETAP announcement, Ryanair is expanding its flight programme by offering a number of direct flights from various German airports to Paphos International Airport. This move is expected to significantly facilitate access, boost demand and further establish Paphos as an attractive Mediterranean destination for the German tourism market.
Specifically, based on the airline’s schedule, a total of nine inbound flights per week are expected, as follows: two weekly flights each from Berlin Brandenburg, Cologne and Düsseldorf, and three weekly flights from Memmingen–Munich.
At the same time, Lufthansa, one of Europe’s leading airlines, will connect Munich with Paphos with three regular weekly flights during the summer 2026 season. The service will offer high-quality travel options and broaden connectivity not only for visitors from Germany, but also from other markets linked through the airline’s international network.
Significant prospects
In addition, increased interest has been observed among tour operators in expanding their programmes to Paphos.
In a statement, ETAP Paphos Director Nasos Hadjigeorgiou said that strengthening air connections with Germany is a development of strategic importance for the Paphos region.
The new and increased flights, he said, create significant prospects for further tourism growth, extending the tourist season, attracting higher-quality visitors and boosting the local economy.
He also expressed warm thanks to the airlines for their confidence in Paphos, adding that ETAP will continue to work systematically with Hermes Airports and other partners to maintain and further strengthen connectivity with key European markets.
Attracting German market
However, it is noted that Cyprus’ performance in the German market to date has been unsatisfactory. Of the approximately 75 million outbound trips from Germany, Cyprus attracts only around 250,000 arrivals, representing just 0.33 per cent. By comparison, Crete records around 1.6 million arrivals, Rhodes one million, and Mallorca approximately 4.3 million.
In light of these developments, ETAP is already adapting its action plan. Measures include participation in the FREE Munich 2026 tourism exhibition in January, consideration of adjustments to its digital marketing campaign with a stronger focus on the German market, contacts with tour operators and airlines for joint initiatives and expanded programmes to Paphos, as well as initiatives to host German journalists, bloggers and travel agents in the region.
