Police are cross‑checking information and preparing to brief the Minister of Justice on the allegations made by journalist Makarios Drousiotis, with the primary objective being to determine whether the messages published by Drousiotis and other messages circulated in the media are authentic.

With the pending submission of Drousiotis’s written statement and the evidence he cites, Police will be in a position to cross‑reference all information before them.

Written statement with extensive documentation

In a social media post, Drousiotis said he will submit his written statement to police today at 1.30pm, accompanied by a three‑digit number of supporting documents, which he claims substantiate his allegations.

Drousiotis said he is taking this step so that the information is formally recorded before the competent authorities.

On Monday, Nikos Clerides handed over to Police a USB drive containing material he claims is related to the case.

Police have already spoken with ‘Sandy’, the key figure in the case, who presented her own claims regarding the messages and the issues raised in Drousiotis’ public statements. This has given investigators a clearer picture of the next steps in the inquiry.

Material before investigative team

As a result, before the end of the day, the investigative team at Police Headquarters will have before it the material submitted by Nikos Clerides and Makarios Drousiotis, as well as the statements provided by ‘Sandy’.

The immediate priority is to establish whether the messages published by Drousiotis, along with other messages that appeared in media reports, are genuine.

Based on this information, Chief of Police Themistos Arnaoutis is expected to brief Justice Minister Costas Fitiris today, so that final decisions can be taken on appointing an independent criminal investigator to examine all aspects of the case.
