Rain and Dust on Today’s Weather Menu, Temperatures Drop Further from Wednesday

Cloudy skies, local showers, isolated storms and snow in the mountains, as a brief cold spell affects the island

Rain, dust in the atmosphere and a noticeable drop in temperatures define today’s weather outlook, according to the Meteorological Department. Conditions are expected to turn slightly cooler on Wednesday, before a gradual warming trend sets in from Thursday.

Today’s Weather

Weather conditions today will be intermittently mostly cloudy, with thin dust suspended in the atmosphere at times. Initially, isolated showers are likely over mountainous areas, as well as western and northern parts of the island. From late afternoon onwards, localised rainfall and isolated thunderstorms are expected.

Snowfall is possible at higher elevations.

Winds will blow mainly south-westerly, initially light at around 3 Beaufort, strengthening during the afternoon to moderate or locally strong, at 4 to 5 Beaufort. The sea will be slightly rough to rough.

Temperatures will reach around 15°C inland, 17°C along the coast, and 7°C in the higher mountainous areas.

Tonight

Tonight, the weather will remain mostly cloudy, with periods of local rain and isolated thunderstorms. Snow is expected in the higher mountains.

Winds will continue mainly south-westerly, moderate to strong at 4 to 5 Beaufort, while the sea will remain rough.

Temperatures will drop to 7°C inland, 9°C along the coast, and 3°C in the higher mountainous areas, where local frost is expected to form.

Outlook for the Coming Days

On Wednesday, the weather will be partly cloudy, with intermittent isolated showers or thunderstorms, as well as snow or sleet at higher elevations.

On Thursday and Friday, conditions will remain partly cloudy, with isolated showers. Snow or sleet remains possible in the higher mountainous regions.

Temperatures are expected to record a slight drop on Wednesday, followed by a gradual increase from Thursday onwards, reaching levels slightly above the seasonal average by Friday.

At the time of issuing the bulletin, the snow depth at Chionistra stood at 17 centimetres.
