An alert has been raised within the National Guard following the unexplained disappearance of approximately 30 pounds of TNT during an engineering exercise at the Kalo Chorio firing range.

Initial reports had referred, erroneously, to a quantity of 300 kilograms. However, according to updated and official information, the amount involved is estimated at around 30 pounds of explosive material.

Military investigation under way

The incident is being treated as particularly serious, prompting the immediate mobilisation of the military leadership. The Chief of the National Guard travelled to the site and is overseeing the investigation.

Two scenarios are under examination. Either the explosive material has genuinely gone missing, or it was detonated during the exercise but was not properly recorded.

The exercise scheduled for the morning of January 30 has been postponed until the situation is fully clarified.

Investigations are continuing in order to establish exactly what occurred and to rule out any risks related to the handling and accounting of explosive materials.
