Containment measures have been introduced by the Veterinary Services in the Livadia livestock area of Larnaca district following a confirmed case of foot-and-mouth disease at a farming unit.
According to a statement by the Police Communications Branch, several roads leading to the livestock zone in Larnacahave been closed as part of the sanitary measures.
Specifically, access has been cut off to the main entrance of the livestock area from Livadia, the entrance from Kellia and 25th March Street in Oroklini.
Police have erected temporary roadblocks at key points within the sealed-off area, while patrols in the vicinity have been stepped up.
A Veterinary Services team is carrying out tyre disinfection on vehicles exiting the restricted zone in an effort to prevent the spread of the disease, the statement added.
