Security measures have been significantly increased at the Andreas Papandreou air base in Paphos ahead of a meeting between President Nikos Christodoulides, French President Emmanuel Macron and Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
The two European leaders are arriving in Cyprus on Monday to hold talks with Christodoulides at the strategically important military facility.
Symbolic and strategic meeting
The gathering of the three leaders at the air base carries strong symbolic and strategic significance.
It underscores Cyprus’s role in regional security and stability, as well as the close cooperation between Mediterranean member states of the European Union.
Heavy security presence
Media representatives from Cyprus and abroad are present at the base to cover the meeting.
Security checks were extensive, with sniffer dogs and explosive detection teams sweeping the area as part of precautionary measures ahead of the leaders’ arrival.
