Student elections at the University of Cyprus were brought to a halt shortly before completion following serious allegations of electoral fraud.

The accusations are directed at the student faction Protoporia, which is affiliated with DISY. Reports have also emerged of incidents of violence between students during the process.

Ballot boxes sealed as tensions rise

Ballot boxes have been sealed and are currently under guard by all student factions. The outcome of the election remains uncertain, while the legitimacy of the process is being strongly contested by opposing groups.

The possibility of legal action remains open, as tensions continue to escalate on campus.

Claims of attempted multiple voting

The student faction Proodeftiki, which is affiliated with AKEL, claims that a member of the Protoporia faction attempted to vote using more than one ballot paper.

According to the allegation, the incident was identified by members of the electoral committee, prompting an immediate reaction. The voting process was subsequently interrupted and never completed.
