Gender Equality Commissioner Josie Christodoulou met on Monday with a delegation of senior officials from government departments and parliament in Ukraine to discuss cooperation on gender equality.

According to an official statement, the visit aimed to exchange expertise and inform the Ukrainian delegation about the policies and practices applied by Cyprus to promote equality between women and men at both national and European level.

During the meeting, Christodoulou presented the key pillars of Cyprus’ National Strategy on Gender Equality, highlighting the importance of coordination across different sectors and government bodies.

She also outlined the role of her office, as well as coordination mechanisms with ministries and deputy ministries, and the advisory role of the National Machinery for Women's Rights in shaping policy.

Particular emphasis was placed on a recent law integrating gender equality into public policies and the state budget. Christodoulou said this approach helps ensure fairer allocation of public resources, reduce inequalities and create more effective policies.

The Ukrainian delegation also exchanged views and best practices with representatives of the National Machinery for Women’s Rights and equality officers from various ministries, as part of efforts to strengthen cooperation and knowledge sharing between the two countries.
