Cyprus celebrated another solid performance in international gymnastics competitions over the Easter period, as Olympian Marios Georgiou secured sixth place on the horizontal bar at the final Artistic Gymnastics World Cup of the season in Croatia.
The Cypriot gymnast’s routine in the final received a score of 14.066. Georgiou had qualified for the final with the eighth-best score of 13.633.
In a social media post, the Cyprus Sports Organisation congratulated the Cypriot Olympian on his new success, as well as his coach Panayiotis Petrides and the Cyprus Gymnastics Federation.
Tugolukova fifth in Tashkent
Meanwhile, rhythmic gymnast Vera Tugolukova finished fifth in the all-around competition at the Rhythmic Gymnastics World Cup in Tashkent.
According to the Cyprus Gymnastics Federation, Tugolukova’s strong performances allowed her to qualify for three apparatus finals in hoop, ball and ribbon, once again confirming her high competitive level.
In the finals she placed eighth in hoop, sixth in ball and fourth in ribbon.
The Cyprus Gymnastics Federation congratulated the entire delegation for supporting the athlete through hard work, dedication and team spirit.
“Coaches, assistants and all the athletes gave their best, representing Cyprus with pride,” the federation said.
Tugolukova’s coach, Elena Nefetova, stated that the gymnast had been excellently prepared and deservedly ranked among the top athletes in the finals.
The delegation also included athlete Maria Sokolova, who made a strong impression, coach Anna Tsuvaeva, judge Chrystalleni Trikomiti and physiotherapist Andrei Pikarev.
