Low pressure is affecting the region, with periods of thin dust expected in the atmosphere. According to the first Christmas outlook issued by the Cyprus Meteorology Department, weather conditions through the week will remain mostly cloudy with local showers, isolated storms and a chance of snow or sleet in the higher mountains.
Today the weather will be partly cloudy with isolated showers and a possible thunderstorm, mainly after midday. Snow or sleet may fall at the highest elevations. Winds will be northeast to southeast, light to moderate at 3 to 4 Beaufort, and the sea will be slight to moderate. Temperatures will reach 18 degrees Celsius inland, around 20 degrees on the coasts and 10 degrees in the higher mountains.
Tonight the weather will remain mostly cloudy at intervals with local showers and isolated storms. Snow or sleet may again occur in the mountains. Winds will stay northeast to southeast, light to moderate at 3 to 4 Beaufort, and the sea will be slight to moderate. Temperatures will drop to 9 degrees inland, around 12 degrees on the coasts and 4 degrees in the higher mountains, where frost is expected to form in some areas.
On Tuesday the weather will continue partly cloudy with isolated showers and isolated thunderstorms at times. Snow or sleet remains possible on the highest peaks.
Wednesday and Thursday will also be partly cloudy with isolated showers mainly over the mountains. Temperatures are not expected to show any significant change over the three day period and will remain slightly above seasonal averages.
