Strong winds affecting Cyprus on Friday led to a total of 17 incidents in Nicosia, Limassol and Famagusta District, according to a statement by the Cyprus Fire Service.
Fire Service spokesperson Andreas Kettis said the majority of interventions were carried out in Nicosia and Strovolos, where firefighters responded to 12 incidents. Ten involved fallen or displaced trees, while two required intervention to secure a displaced awning and a pergola roof.
In the Famagusta area, crews responded to the fall of a tree. In Limassol and the community of Kellaki, four incidents were recorded: two fallen trees, one displaced sheet metal structure and one case of sparking from cables belonging to the Electricity Authority of Cyprus.
Kettis urged the public to remain particularly cautious, secure objects that could be carried away by strong winds and avoid unnecessary travel.
The Fire Service reminded the public that strong winds can cause serious damage and called on citizens to follow safety instructions until weather conditions improve.
