Mountain Roads Open Under Restrictions

Snowfall and frost make roads slippery – landslides reported on multiple routes

Roads leading to Troodos were open on Wednesday morning only to vehicles with four-wheel drive (4x4) or fitted with snow chains, due to snowfall and frost that have rendered road surfaces particularly slippery.

According to an update issued by the Cyprus Police, at around 10:30am the following roads remained passable only under these conditions:

• Platres – Troodos

• Karvounas – Troodos

• Prodromos – Troodos

• Pedoulas – Prodromos

At the same time, the following roads were open to all vehicles but remained slippery due to light snowfall or frost:

• Prodromos – Lemythou

• Kakopetria – Pinewood – Pedoulas

Landslides reported

Rockfalls and soil landslides have also been reported on several routes, including:

• Kalopanayiotis – Moutoullas – Pedoulas

• Kakopetria – Karvounas

• Pedoulas – Kykkos – Kambos

• Kykkos – Tsakkistra

• Kambos – Orkonta – Kato Pyrgos

No significant issues have been reported on the rest of the road network, including urban areas and motorways.

Police have urged drivers travelling on the road network to exercise increased caution, comply with traffic regulations and road signs, and adjust their driving accordingly to avoid collisions.
