Cold Spell Subsides With Warmer Days Ahead

Cold air mass gradually receding, slight rise expected above seasonal averages

The temperature will reach 17C inland today, as the cold air mass affecting Cyprus begins to gradually weaken.

According to the Department of Meteorology, conditions will be mainly clear, with intervals of locally increased cloud cover. Temperatures are expected to rise to around 17C inland, 19C along the coast and 7C in the higher mountain areas. Winds will blow mainly north-westerly to north-easterly, light to moderate at 3 to 4 Beaufort, while the sea will be slight to a little rough.

Tonight, the weather will remain mostly clear. Temperatures will drop to 4C inland, around 7C on the coast and -1C in the higher mountains, where frost is expected to form locally. Winds will remain light to moderate and the sea calm to slight.

On Tuesday, conditions will stay mostly clear with periods of increased cloud, particularly in the afternoon. A slight rise in temperature is forecast, bringing values marginally above average for the season.

Wednesday is expected to be partly cloudy, with a possibility of isolated showers, while Thursday will begin mostly clear before locally increased cloud develops after midday, mainly over mountainous areas. No significant temperature change is expected on Wednesday and Thursday.

Snow depth at Chionistra stood at 1 centimetre at the time of issuance of the bulletin.
