Change In Weather Pattern Brings Showers, Hail and Dust

Showers and isolated thunderstorms forecast from Wednesday, with dust levels rising and temperatures gradually dipping below seasonal averages.

Weak low pressure is affecting the region, bringing unsettled weather conditions across Cyprus in the coming days.

Today, periods of increased cloud cover are expected, while winds will initially be light and variable at around 3 Beaufort, later shifting mainly from northeast to southeast at 3 to 4 Beaufort. The sea will be slight to a little rough.

Temperatures will rise to around 19°C inland and along the southeastern coast, 18°C in the rest of the coastal areas, and about 11°C in the higher mountains.

Tonight, the weather will be mostly cloudy with medium and high-level clouds. Later, particularly during the early morning hours, patchy fog may form, mainly inland. Winds will remain light to moderate at 3 to 4 Beaufort, with coastal areas locally reaching 4 Beaufort. The sea will remain slight to a little rough.

Temperatures will drop to around 7°C inland, 10°C on the coast, and 5°C in the higher mountainous areas.

Rain and dust from Wednesday

On Wednesday, conditions will be partly to mostly cloudy, with isolated showers expected in the afternoon. From the evening onwards, more widespread rain is forecast, with a possibility of isolated thunderstorms.

Dust will also be present in the atmosphere, with concentrations expected to increase from late afternoon.

Hail risk and further instability

On Thursday and Friday, the weather will remain unsettled, with intervals of cloud, localised showers and isolated thunderstorms.

Hail may occur during thunderstorms, while sleet is possible on the highest peaks of the Troodos Mountains.

Dust will persist in the atmosphere, with concentrations temporarily increasing, particularly on Thursday.

Temperatures are not expected to change significantly on Wednesday but will gradually decline by Friday, settling close to or slightly below average seasonal levels.
