Dialogue, arts and community activities mark International Day of Peace in the capital

The Association for Historical Dialogue and Research (AHDR), the Home for Cooperation (H4C) and The Home Cafe will mark the International Day of Peace on Sunday, 20 September with a programme of discussions, educational activities, cultural events and community engagement in Nicosia, organisers said.

Held under the theme "Invest in Peace – For Everyone, Everywhere, Every Day", the event will bring together organisations and members of the public from across Cyprus to discuss peacebuilding, racism and discrimination, while promoting dialogue and cooperation.

The programme will begin at 4pm with a roundtable discussion titled "Voices Against Racism", featuring civil society representatives examining racism, discrimination and collective action. An educational walk, "Streets to Peace: Peacebuilding and the Urban Space", will follow from 5.30pm to 7.30pm, while children will be able to participate in a creative arts activity, "Painting Peace Together", from 6.30pm to 7.30pm.

A key event of the day will be the launch of the Imagine Peace Academy from 7.30pm to 8.15pm. Organisers said the initiative expands AHDR's peace education work and builds on the legacy of the Imagine project by creating opportunities for learning, dialogue and cooperation among educators, young people, parents and communities.

An NGO fair running from 5pm to 11pm will provide civil society organisations with an opportunity to present their work and engage with visitors. The evening programme will also include food, drinks and music.

The event is organised by AHDR, H4C and The Home Cafe. It is funded by Germany's Federal Foreign Office and supported by the European Commission Representation in Cyprus through the EUAcrossCY_H4C project.
