Firefighters Battle Blaze Near Yiolou

Ground crews, aircraft and forestry teams have been deployed to contain a wildfire near the Paphos community of Yiolou.

A wildfire is burning near the community of Yiolou in the Paphos district, prompting a large-scale response from the Fire Service and the Department of Forests.

Authorities said strong ground forces and aerial firefighting assets have been deployed as efforts continue to contain the blaze.

Ground and air resources mobilised

According to the Department of Forests, the operation includes:

  • Five fire engines
  • Two bulldozers
  • 23 forest firefighters
  • Three forestry officers coordinating operations

Aerial assets are also carrying out water drops in support of firefighting efforts.

Additional crews on standby

The Department of Forests said additional resources remain on standby and will be deployed if conditions require further reinforcement.

The voluntary firefighting group ATLAS 3 Paphos has also joined the response.

Situation under monitoring

No information has yet been released regarding the size of the fire or whether any residential areas are under threat.
