The film follows the remarkable creative journey of renowned French writer Marcel Pagnol. Chomet’s 90-minute animated feature offers a biographical portrait of one of France’s most influential 20th-century artists.
The plot
Set in Paris in 1955, the story centres on 60-year-old Marcel Pagnol, an established and celebrated playwright and filmmaker. When the editor-in-chief of Elle magazine asks him to write a weekly column about his childhood, Pagnol returns to his first passion – writing – and revisits the defining moments of his life and artistic career.
As he begins to write, memories resurface and his younger self appears, allowing him to explore his past, his creative milestones and personal experiences.
