The Pan-Cyprian Union of Urban Taxi Drivers (POAT) will stage a 24-hour strike from 6am on Tuesday, 20 January, until 6am on Wednesday, 21 January, escalating its industrial action over unresolved issues with authorities.

In a statement, POAT said that following a four-hour work stoppage on Tuesday, 13 January, and the lack of action or meetings from the responsible bodies, the union is proceeding with the planned 24-hour strike. It warned that if their demands are still not addressed,  industrial action could continue with an indefinite strike starting Tuesday, 27 January.

The union has designated gathering points for taxis at Larnaca and Paphos airports, and in Limassol at the Potamos Germasogeias parking area. Reports indicate that drivers in Larnaca will meet between 7am and 8am at the parking area before moving to the departures area, where they will block one lane of the road rather than the entire carriageway.
