Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan will visit the United Kingdom on 23–24 April as part of efforts to intensify diplomatic contacts between Ankara and London.
According to diplomatic sources cited by Turkish media, the Turkish foreign minister is expected to meet Yvette Cooper, members of the British Parliament and other officials during his visit.
While in London, Fidan will also deliver a speech at an event organised by the Centre for Global History and the Global Order Programme at University of Oxford. He is also scheduled to meet Turkish citizens and business figures living in the United Kingdom.
Focus on trade and bilateral ties
Talks are expected to focus on further strengthening bilateral relations and expanding co-operation across multiple areas. Particular emphasis will be placed on accelerating negotiations to upgrade the Free Trade Agreement, with the aim of increasing bilateral trade.
The importance of the Turkish community in the United Kingdom – estimated at around 500,000 people – is also expected to be highlighted as a key factor in strengthening economic, cultural and social ties between the two countries.
