Costas Kadis and Glenn Micallef will take part in a Youth Policy Dialogue on ocean policies in Cyprus on 19 March. The event forms part of broader EU efforts to integrate youth perspectives into policymaking, particularly in areas related to the blue economy, fisheries and cultural heritage.

EU Youth Conference underway

In parallel, around 300 youth delegates, policymakers and institutional representatives from EU member states and candidate countries will participate in the online EU Youth Conference, taking place from 18 to 20 March.

During the Cyprus-based dialogue, the two commissioners will engage with 30 young participants from across the EU, selected through an open call.

Discussions will focus on three main areas:

  • encouraging youth participation in the blue economy and gathering input for the Blue Generational Renewal Strategy

  • collecting views on the future of fisheries and aquaculture to inform the upcoming Vision 2040 initiative

  • exploring ways to protect underwater cultural heritage while balancing environmental, cultural and educational priorities

The outcomes of the discussion will be presented during the closing session of the EU Youth Conference on 20 March.

Policy impact

The initiative is expected to contribute directly to EU policy development, including the Vision 2040 for fisheries and aquaculture and the Blue Generational Renewal Strategy, both part of the European Ocean Pact.

Further information on youth-related EU initiatives is available through the European Youth Portal.
