Israel is expected to present US President Donald Trump with a new military plan for potential strikes on Iran during a White House meeting on 29 December, according to reporting by NBC News. The network cites a source familiar with the discussions as well as four former US officials who were briefed on the matter.
NBC reports that Israel has grown increasingly concerned that Iran is rebuilding key nuclear facilities targeted in US airstrikes last June. Israeli officials also believe that Tehran is accelerating production of ballistic missiles and restoring critical air defence systems, developments they consider more urgent than the nuclear issue itself.
The report comes one week after Trump hinted at the possibility of talks with Iran while warning Tehran not to revive its ballistic missile programme or its nuclear activities.
The White House meeting later this month is expected to focus heavily on Israel’s assessment of Iran’s expanding military capabilities and the potential need for coordinated action.
