Escalating military tensions in the Middle East are affecting the schedule of Europe’s top basketball competition, with postponements and venue changes under consideration. Organisers say decisions are being taken in coordination with clubs and authorities to ensure the safety of players, staff and supporters.

Postponement of Hapoel Tel Aviv v Paris

EuroLeague confirmed a renewed postponement of the match between Hapoel Tel Aviv and Paris Basketball, which had been scheduled to take place in Tel Aviv on Tuesday 3 March 2026.

The fixture, originally part of Round 21 and already rearranged once, will not proceed on the revised date due to the current security situation in the region. The organising body said it is working with the clubs involved to determine the most appropriate solution for rescheduling.

Uncertainty over Israeli derby

No official postponement has yet been announced for the Round 30 meeting between Maccabi Tel Aviv and Hapoel Tel Aviv, scheduled for Thursday 5 March at the Menora Mivtachim Arena.

However, the match may either be relocated to another country or postponed, as security concerns intensify.

Hapoel has already moved its players out of Israel for safety reasons. According to official statements, the team departed from Tel Aviv with an interim stop in Athens, while the final destination will depend on forthcoming decisions by Euroleague authorities.

Evaluation of alternative venues

Euroleague stated that it is assessing alternative options for staging postponed matches and remains in continuous communication with clubs and relevant authorities to safeguard the health and security of all participants.

The coming days are expected to be decisive for the final structure of the schedule, with scenarios under review including neutral venues, further rescheduling and additional postponements.

Cancellation of NextGen qualifier in Abu Dhabi

In a separate development, Euroleague announced the cancellation of the adidas NextGen qualifying tournament in Abu Dhabi, citing safety concerns.

“Following careful evaluation and ongoing consultation with the competent authorities and stakeholders, it has been decided that cancelling the event is the most responsible course of action at this time,” the organisation said.

Sports activities in Israel have been suspended at national level due to security concerns for players and spectators.
