Miguel Díaz-Canel has pledged “unbreakable resistance” in response to escalating rhetoric from Donald Trump, as tensions between the two leaders intensify.

In a post on X on Tuesday, Díaz-Canel warned that “in the face of the worst-case scenario, Cuba has one certainty: every external invader will face unbreakable resistance.”

Escalating rhetoric

The statement follows remarks by Trump on Monday, in which he said he “believes” he would “have the honour of taking Cuba,” without clarifying what he meant.

He also stated that he would “liberate” the island, which is governed by a communist administration, while continuing to increase pressure on Havana.

The exchange marks a further escalation in the war of words between Washington and Havana, amid growing geopolitical friction.
