Raffaele Fitto, the European Union's Special Representative for the Cyprus issue and Executive Vice-President of the European Commission, is expected to arrive in Cyprus on Thursday for meetings aimed at supporting efforts to restart negotiations on the Cyprus problem.
According to a European Commission spokesperson, Fitto's visit falls within his mandate to contribute to the UN-led Cyprus settlement process, in close cooperation and coordination with María Ángela Holguín, the UN Secretary-General's Personal Envoy for Cyprus.
Fitto is scheduled to meet President Nikos Christodoulides and Turkish Cypriot leader Tufan Erhürman on Friday.
Christodoulides confirmed on Wednesday that he would hold talks with the EU representative and that Fitto would also meet Erhürman.
The visit comes a day after the conclusion of UN Secretary-General António Guterres' visit to Cyprus, amid renewed diplomatic activity surrounding the Cyprus issue.
