Climate change is often framed as a scientific or technological problem. But according to Natasa Ioannou, Project Manager for the Energy Campaign at Friends of the Earth Cyprus, it is first and foremost a question of justice.
In the second episode of Politis to the Point UNFILTERED, host Niki Laou sits down with Natasa for an honest and wide-ranging conversation about what climate justice actually means in the Cypriot context, and why so many people are being left out of the decisions that will shape their lives.
From households that cannot afford to cool their homes in the summer heat, to communities like Pentakomo bearing the environmental burden of industrial expansion they were never consulted on, Natasa paints a picture of a country that is moving too slowly, too narrowly, and too often behind closed doors.
The conversation also tackles the politics of micromobility, the fragmented state of environmental policy across ministries, and the barriers that civil society organisations face when trying to have their voice heard at the table.
