Health ministry reports rise in fatalities as suspected cases of haemorrhagic fever climb across three vast provinces.

The Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has claimed the lives of more than 200 people over the past two months. According to an epidemiological update released by the country's Ministry of Health, a total of 867 suspected cases of the viral haemorrhagic fever have been documented during this period

Official data indicates that 204 deaths linked to the virus have been recorded across three separate provinces of the expansive central African nation.

Rising case numbers

The updated figures reflect an increase from data published previously by the World Health Organization (WHO). The international health body's earlier report had indicated 177 fatalities from a total of 750 suspected cases.

The ongoing transmission represents the latest public health emergency in the region, where health authorities and international agencies are working to contain the spread of the virus within highly mobile and remote populations.
