Turkey is mounting one of its largest-ever security operations as it prepares to host NATO leaders on 7 and 8 July.

The Turkish Government has deployed a total of 56,288 security personnel in preparation for the NATO Summit in Ankara, which takes place on 7 and 8 July. The operation includes 48,841 police officers and 7,447 gendarmerie, with a further 639 personnel conducting round-the-clock online patrols to monitor and counter cyberthreats and criminal activity on the internet.

Leaders and diplomats converging on Ankara

The summit will bring together the leaders of all 32 NATO member states, alongside invited heads of state, approximately 100 ministers, senior diplomats and representatives of international organisations.

The head of the Communications Directorate of the Turkish Presidency, Burhanettin Duran, said the summit will demonstrate Turkey's "diplomatic weight" and its enhanced role within the Alliance. He also stated that Turkey aims to meet the NATO defence spending target of 3.5% plus 1.5% of GDP by the end of 2030, describing the Turkish defence industry as a "strategic power multiplier" for the Alliance.

Media and logistics infrastructure

Nearly 3,000 journalists from Turkey and abroad have applied for accreditation. A press centre with 1,600 workstations, around 100 live broadcast points and 40 editing suites will operate in the library of the Presidential Palace. State broadcaster TRT will cover the summit using 80 cameras positioned across 26 locations.

Foreign delegations will arrive via Esenboğa and Mürted airports, as well as an additional aviation facility in the Ankara area.
