Police in Nicosia are investigating a case of assault and acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm following an incident in the Nicosia district last night. Two suspects, both aged 32, were arrested to facilitate the investigation, while two men, aged 30 and 32, were taken to hospital for treatment.
The incident
According to information under examination, at around 9pm yesterday the two 32-year-old suspects travelled to an area in the Nicosia district, where they met a 30-year-old man. Police say one of the suspects, driving his car under circumstances that are still being investigated, struck the 30-year-old with his vehicle, then struck a 32-year-old relative of the man, who had rushed to the scene.
The driver then left the scene. The second suspect, who had arrived at the location on a motorcycle, remained and attacked the 30-year-old man, who managed to restrain him.
Arrests and remand
Police officers called to the scene arrested the motorcycle rider. The driver of the car was subsequently located and arrested under a court warrant. Further checks established that the motorcycle he had been riding had been reported stolen on 30 August 2026 at the Nicosia CID.
Both suspects appeared before the Nicosia District Court this morning, which approved a police request and issued an eight-day remand order for the purposes of the police investigation.
Injuries
The 30-year-old and 32-year-old complainants were taken to Nicosia General Hospital. The 32-year-old was found to have sustained injuries to the chest and leg and was admitted for treatment, with his condition described as out of danger. The 30-year-old was also admitted for treatment as a precaution.
