The funeral of Popi Christoforou was held in Limassol on Wednesday in an atmosphere of deep emotion, with large crowds gathering to pay their final respects. Family, friends, state officials and members of the public bid her farewell dressed in blue and white, honouring her last wish.

A mother's long-held grief

Christoforou was the mother of twin naval servicemen Christos and Miltos Christoforou, who lost their lives in the deadly explosion at the Evangelos Florakis Naval Base in Mari on 11 July 2011. She died on 6 September following a long battle with cancer.

A farewell in her chosen colours

The service took place at the Church of Agia Triada in Limassol, with crowds filling the church. Mourners honoured her wish by attending dressed in blue and white.
