The Health Insurance Organisation (HIO) and the Cyprus Police have issued a fresh warning to beneficiaries of the General Healthcare System (GeSY), as cases of false and malicious text messages claiming to come from GeSY continue to be recorded. In a joint statement, they urged the public to be particularly careful and to delete such messages immediately without opening any links they contain.
How the fake messages appear
According to the statement, the misleading SMS use the name "GESY" or other names referring to healthcare providers, in order to create the impression that they come from GeSY.
The messages may even appear below legitimate messages previously sent by GeSY to beneficiaries.
What the HIO will never ask for
The HIO stressed that it will never ask beneficiaries via SMS for passwords, login details, payment details or other personal data.
It also clarified that it will not ask citizens to carry out any financial transaction through links included in text messages.
What to do if you receive such a message
The HIO and the Police are calling on anyone who receives a message of this kind not to open the link and to delete the SMS immediately.
