Transport Minister Evi Tsolaki told Parliament on Friday that the Tender Board had turned down the two offers submitted for the Paphos to Polis Chrysochous road. The first was excluded because an essential document was missing, while the second was priced at roughly 40% above the estimated cost of the project.
Minister’s statement before the Finance Committee
Ms Tsolaki was speaking before the House Finance Committee, where she presented the Ministry of Transport’s proposed budget for 2027.
Options under review for the road
On the Paphos to Polis Chrysochous road, the minister said she had called a broad meeting with all relevant officials and asked for a range of options to be examined, including the construction of a four-lane road.
She said she received the Public Works Department’s recommendations on 16 September and will assess them in order to determine the cost and implementation timeline.
According to Ms Tsolaki, the aim is for the project to move forward as soon as possible while selecting the best possible solution, so as to limit the risk of similar problems arising in the future.
Ministry budget for 2027
The Ministry of Transport’s budget for next year is projected to rise by 11.3%, or €60 million, to €611.2 million. The minister set the delivery of major projects that will help ease traffic congestion as a key priority.
Public Works Department record for 2026
Reviewing 2026, the minister said that by 30 September the total value of significant projects completed by the Public Works Department stood at €187.5 million. Of this, €118.5 million related to Ministry of Transport projects and €69 million to projects of other ministries.
Projects under way
The total value of projects currently under way, beyond those completed in 2026, amounts to approximately €640 million, she said. Of this, €729 million concerns Ministry of Transport projects and €211 million projects being implemented by other ministries.
