The British father was released after sentencing in a case arising from the fatal fall of his son from a hotel window in Chloraka.

A 37-year-old British father has been fined €3,000 by the Paphos District Court in connection with the death of his three-year-old son, who fell from a fourth-floor hotel window in Chloraka in July.

The court imposed the financial penalty after the father had previously admitted guilt to the charge against him. Following sentencing, he was released, while the remaining balance of the bail money he had deposited is expected to be returned.

Court describes incident as a momentary lapse

Delivering the judgment, the court president described the incident as a "momentary error" rather than a deliberate act.

The court also acknowledged the gravity of the tragedy, noting that the loss of his child is something the father will carry with him for the rest of his life.

Emotional scenes in court

The 37-year-old was accompanied in court by his parents and other relatives as he awaited sentencing.

According to reports, he became visibly emotional during the reading of the judgment, particularly when reference was made to the circumstances surrounding the child's death.

After the sentence was announced, relatives embraced him, while some family members broke down in tears.

Family was on holiday in Cyprus

The incident occurred on 12 July 2026 at a hotel in Chloraka, where the family was staying during a holiday in Cyprus.

The three-year-old boy died after falling from a fourth-floor window.

The case attracted significant attention from British media, with more than ten journalists and other members of the foreign press attending the court hearing.

Guilty plea considered

During mitigation, the defence asked the court to take into account the father's guilty plea, clean criminal record and the profound personal loss resulting from the death of his son.

The proceedings concluded with the €3,000 fine and the father's release.
