Emergency services were alerted at 05:46 after a fire broke out at a house in central Paphos.

The property, located in the Mousalla area a short distance from the Metropolitan Cathedral of Agios Theodoros, has been abandoned for a considerable period.

Fire Service officials confirmed that no one was inside the building when the fire started.

Firefighters responded promptly, bringing the blaze under control and preventing it from spreading to neighbouring buildings. Information indicates that the property is the former family home of Androula Vassiliou, former First Lady of the Republic of Cyprus.

According to reports, the property has since been sold by the Vassiliou family to a foreign owner, while in recent months it is believed to have been used occasionally by homeless individuals.

The causes of the fire are under investigation by the relevant authorities.
