Two children, aged 8 and 10, were found unconscious inside a parked car outside a house in Xylophagou Sunday midday. Police and ambulance rushed to the scene but to no avail. Their deaths were confirmed.
British Bases police confirmed on Sunday night that the father and stepmother of the two children were arrested on suspicion of alleged negligence in connection with the deaths of the two children. Enquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident are ongoing.

Initial reports suggest the two children were on holiday in Cyprus visiting their father who is working on the island. According to information obtained by Politis, the vehicle in which the children were found was locked. Initial indications are directing investigations toward the possibility of asphyxiation, although there is no official confirmation from the authorities.
Dhekelia British Bases Police have cordoned off the area outside the residence where the tragedy occurred as part of investigations into the circumstances around the deaths of the two minors. Police were taking statements on Sunday in an effort to establish how the children ended up in the car while their father and stepmother were at work.
