Father and Stepmother in Court After Deaths of Two Boys in Locked Car

Community leader says the two children had arrived from Bulgaria for summer holidays with their father.

The father and stepmother of two boys, aged 8 and 10, who were found dead on Sunday, June 28, 2026, inside a parked car outside their home in the village of Xylofagou, within the British Bases, are due to appear today, Monday June 29, before the British Bases Court in Dhekelia.

The court hearing is scheduled for 11am and concerns a request for the issuance of a remand order for the two suspects.

It is recalled that the father and stepmother were arrested on Sunday afternoon on suspicion of alleged negligence in connection with the deaths of the two minor children.

According to information so far, the vehicle in which the two boys were found was locked, while their parents were at work. Xylofagou community leader Giorgos Ioulianos said the children had arrived from Bulgaria to spend their summer holidays with their father.

The circumstances under which the tragedy occurred are still under investigation by the British Bases Police. Authorities have sealed off the scene, are collecting testimony and evidence, and are examining all possibilities to determine how the two children ended up inside the vehicle and what exactly led to their deaths.
