Independent criminal investigator Andreas Paschalides has declined to comment on the progress of his investigation into the so-called Videogate affair, saying only that he will try to complete the inquiry within the deadline set for him.
Asked about the status of the investigation into a video uploaded on social media platform X by an account identified as “Emily Thompson” on January 8, 2026, Police spokesperson Vyron Vyronos referred questions to Paschalides himself.
Vyronos noted that police officers assisting with the case are operating under the directions of the independent investigator.
Speaking to the Cyprus News Agency (CNA), Paschalides declined to discuss the substance or progress of the probe.
“I will try to meet the deadline,” he said.
Second extension granted
The investigation was originally expected to be completed by mid-April 2026.
On April 6, Paschalides requested a two-month extension to continue the inquiry after investigators obtained the full-length version of the video at the centre of the case.
A second extension was requested on June 15. According to Paschalides' announcement at the time, additional time was required to complete the collection and assessment of new and significant evidence.
The revised deadline expires on July 20, 2026.
