A wildfire that broke out on Wednesday afternoon in dry grass and wild vegetation near the community of Marathounta, in the Paphos district, has been brought under control after burning around four hectares of land.
According to Fire Service spokesperson Andreas Kettis, the fire is now manageable and has been contained around its perimeter.
Firefighters remain at the scene carrying out final extinguishing operations and securing the affected area.
Cause to be investigated
The blaze burned a total of approximately four hectares. The cause of the fire will be investigated once it has been fully extinguished, in cooperation with police.
The fire prompted an immediate response from emergency services after it broke out on Wednesday afternoon.
According to an earlier update from Kettis, four fully staffed fire engines were initially deployed, with operations later reinforced by crews from the Forestry Department and organised volunteer groups.
Four firefighting aircraft were also mobilised. Two were already on aerial patrol, while the other two took off from Paphos airport, playing a key role in containing the blaze.
