The total number of West Nile virus infections recorded in Cyprus has reached 14 as of 17 September 2026, according to the Ministry of Health's Medical and Public Health Services.
Of the 14 cases, nine are confirmed and five are considered probable. 13 of the cases are locally acquired, with one imported. A total of one death has been recorded so far, involving a patient with an underlying medical history and existing health conditions.
Respiratory infection activity remains low
According to the same data, activity of acute respiratory infections in the community, as recorded through the Sentinel Surveillance Network in primary healthcare, remains low, at 42 cases per 1,000 visits.
Between 7 and 13 September 2026, based on figures reported by public and private hospitals, there were five hospitalisations due to flu, none due to RSV, and six due to SARS-CoV-2.
In the preceding week, between 31 August and 6 September 2026, two hospitalisations due to influenza A and four due to SARS-CoV-2 were recorded. No admissions to intensive care units were recorded during either of the two weeks.
