Tourism Data Improves as July Arrivals Fall Just 1.1%

The Statistical Service says July's decline in tourist arrivals was the smallest in months, though arrivals for the year to date remain well below 2025 levels.

Cyprus' tourism figures are showing signs of improvement, according to data published on Tuesday by the Statistical Service on tourist arrivals for July. The year-on-year decline in July arrivals was limited to 1.1%, compared with a 1.7% fall in June and a 4.9% fall in May.

Tourist arrivals in July 2026 stood at 582,754, compared with 589,116 in July 2025. This follows steeper declines earlier in the year, with arrivals down 27.6% year-on-year in April 2026 and 30.7% in March.

The United Kingdom remained the leading source of tourism in July 2026, accounting for 31.9% of total arrivals (185,981), followed by Israel with 20.5% (119,293), Poland with 6.3% (36,912), Germany with 3.7% (21,338) and Sweden with 3.4% (19,899).

Holidays remained the main purpose of travel in July 2026, accounting for 85.2% of tourists, with 11.7% visiting friends or relatives and 3.0% travelling for business. This compares with 85.5%, 11.6% and 2.8% respectively in July 2025.

For the period from January to July 2026, tourist arrivals totalled 2,238,769, compared with 2,432,129 for the same period in 2025, a decrease of 8.0%.

Travel abroad rises 12.3%

Travel abroad by Cyprus residents rose in July 2026, reaching 210,047 trips compared with 186,987 in July 2025, an increase of 12.3%.

The main countries from which Cyprus residents returned in July 2026 were Greece, accounting for 38.5% (80,775), the United Kingdom with 7.1% (14,832), Italy with 6.0% (12,545), Poland with 3.5% (7,412) and Germany with 3.5% (7,330).
